The Wheel & Tire Council (WTC) of the Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) will host two events during the upcoming SEMA Show, a roundtable/townhall discussion on Oct. 29 and a reception on Oct. 31.
The roundtable discussion will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. on Oct. 29 at the Las Vegas Convention Center, Room S219, with guest speaker Daniel Smith, associate administrator for enforcement, National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), leading a discussion on regulatory restrictions of critical importance to companies that source products from other countries.
Participants will hear how importers share all of the same obligations and responsibilities as manufacturers, including the application of measures that self-certify products covered by NHTSA safety standards.
Mr. Smith will discuss NHTSA's enforcement activity as the regulations apply to wheels and tires, such as compliance with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 139 (passenger and light-truck tires) and FMVSS 138 (tire pressure monitoring systems).
The industry reception will take place from 5 to 7 p.m. on Oct. 31 in Pavilion 1 at the Las Vegas Hilton, sponsored by Standards Testing Laboratories Inc.
The WTC-made up of SEMA member companies whose business focuses on the wheel industry-is organized to identify common problems and opportunities relating to the aftermarket wheel industry and act upon them when necessary.
