WASHINGTON (Sept. 10, 2007) — The House Judiciary Committee has passed by unanimous voice vote a resolution to renew the Task Force on Antitrust and Competition Policy it created in February.
The new resolution keeps the task force running until March. Its purpose is to examine policy issues related to antitrust and competition matters, with an eye toward changing or abolishing those policies that inhibit free competition.
The Automotive Service Association (ASA) supports the task force and said it hopes it will provide some impetus toward repeal of the McCarran-Ferguson Act, which exempts the insurance industry from antitrust regulations.
“The fall will be consumed by appropriations bills, and 2008 could easily be absorbed with election-year politics, leaving no time to move a major initiative such as the repeal of McCarran-Ferguson,” said Bob Redding, ASA Washington representative.
