CINCINNATI (June 22, 2007) — The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has fined Rumpke Tire Recycling, a subsidiary of waste recycling firm Rumpke Consolidated Companies Inc., $17,000 for safety violations connected with the death of a temporary worker at Rumpke Tire's Butler County, Ohio, facility.
Scott Johnson, 56, was gravely injured April 27 when he either fell or was pulled into a tire shredder. He died of his injuries June 16.
“The safety of each and every employee is our chief concern,” said Rumpke Vice President Jeff Rumpke in a statement after Mr. Johnson's death. “A tragic accident like this is a grim reminder that more work is necessary.”
Rumpke Tire has teamed with TLC Industrial Temporary, Johnson's employer, to promote a fund for Mr. Johnson's family.
