CYPRESS, Calif. (Dec. 15, 2006) – Veteran on- and off-road racer Robby Gordon will compete again next year in the 16-day, 5,390-mile Dakar marathon rally using Toyo Open Country M/T tires on his Hummer H3.
Mr. Gordon, the winner of the recent Baja 1000 off-road race and a three-time winner of the Baja 500, teamed up last year for the first time with Toyo and General Motors Corp. to tackle the grueling Dakar rally, which starts this year in Lisbon, Portugal, on Jan. 6 and ends 16 days later in Dakar, Senegal.
Last year Mr. Gordon became the first American to win a stage at the Dakar but later dropped out after suffering a radiator puncture.
Mr. Gordon's Hummer H3 will run on 37X13.50R17 Open Country M/T tires made at Toyo Tire USA Inc.'s White, Ga., plant. The vehicle also is equipped with an onboard tire inflation/deflation system to make it easier to adjust air pressures on-the-fly.
