WASHINGTON (Nov. 30, 2006) — The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has decided to give brake hose manufacturers another year to meet the requirements of the final hose safety rule issued in December 2004.
The rule's new effective date is Dec. 20, 2007, instead of Dec. 20, 2006. Brake hose manufacturers told the agency they are grateful for the extra time, though Parker Hannifin Corp. is unhappy that NHTSA still hasn't addressed some fundamental problems the company has with the regulation.
At the very least, NHTSA should remove discrepancies between the new rule and existing Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) tests and re-implement the old rule until all objections to the new ones are addressed, Parker Hannifin said.
