A nearly four-week old strike against Goodyear is having little or no effect on the tire maker's ability to supply General Motors Corp. and DaimlerChrysler A.G.
Goodyear is DaimlerChrysler's largest tire supplier and GM's second-largest tire supplier, according to Tire Business data.
GM spokeswoman Deborah Silverman said the combination of production by Goodyear salaried employees at the 16 tire plants struck Oct. 5 and production by alternate tire suppliers has eliminated potential shortfalls. She did not name the other suppliers, but GM's largest supplier is Bridgestone/Firestone while Continental Tire North America Inc. ranks third, according to Tire Business.
A DaimlerChrysler spokeswoman said the auto maker is working with Goodyear to assure supplies. ``Production has not been impacted and we don't foresee a problem in the short term,'' she said.
