WASHINGTON (Nov. 3, 2006) — In anticipation of tire pressure monitoring systems (TPMS) becoming mandated standard equipment on vehicles, the Alliance of Automobile Manufacturers has started a consumer Web site, www.checkmytires.com.
The Web site provides basic information on TPMS, includes a question-and-answer page on the importance of proper tire inflation and reminds motorists that they should check their tire pressure at least once a month despite the presence of TPMS.
“Fuel efficiency is reduced by 1 percent for every three psi underinflation,” the Web site states. “Keeping tires properly inflated translates into a free tank of gas annually.”
