LAS VEGAS (Nov. 2, 2006) — Toyo Tire (U.S.A.) Corp. next year will launch an all-season touring tire line—dubbed Versado LX—engineered for a smooth, quiet ride and aimed at the luxury car market, the company said at the Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) Show.
The Versado LX features technology Toyo is calling “Silent Wall” design. This involves four longitudinal grooves that trap air between the tire and the road surface, forcing it through a passage to reduce noise called “pipe resonance,” the company said.
The design further has a series of densely packed serrations along the wall of the longitudinal grooves to reduce air rushing or whistling noise while traveling at highway speeds.
The tire also features a non-directional, asymmetric tread with rigid tread blocks facing out to improve cornering. Multi-wave sipes help decrease tread block movement under driving and braking conditions. This keeps the tread in contact with the road better on both wet and dry surfaces, resulting in improved overall handling, Toyo said.
The Versado LX will come in 15- to 18-inch rim sizes in 70 to 45 series and widths ranging from 195- to 255-mm to fit cars such as Honda Accord, Audi A8, BMW 7 Series, Cadillac DTS and STS, Chrysler 300, Infiniti Q45, Lexus ES350, Lincoln Town Car and Mercedes-Benz, among others.
The tire should be available during the first half of next year, Toyo said.
