LAS VEGAS (Oct. 30, 2006) — Pirelli Tire North America Inc. is launching a new touring line as well as a concept super single tire for light trucks at the Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) Show in Las Vegas.
The touring tire, the P4 Four Seasons, will be available in January, Pirelli said. The tire features a silica-rich compound and specialized tread design for maximum grip in both wet and snow conditions. The tread profile and compound also offer an improvement in the tire's wear rate, to 85,000 miles.
The tire will be offered in 24 sizes ranging from 14- to 17-inch rim diameters, all T-rated. Target vehicles for the tires include small- to medium-sized sedans and minivans.
Pirelli also is launching a concept super single tire for light trucks, a 405/25R24 Scorpion Zero Asimmetrico.
The concept is based on similar technology for heavy trucks and—depending on market reaction—could be manufactured at Pirelli's factory in Rome, Ga., in early 2007.
The tire may be mounted on a 14.5- or 15-inch wide rim and is intended for various customized light trucks, particularly small and medium trucks that have “wildly” modified bodywork and rear suspensions, Pirelli said.
“Since none of our competitors have yet demonstrated any technology beyond making a handful of prototypes bigger than a 28-inch and we are selling plenty of 30-inch Scorpions, we decided to do something a little different this year,” said Guy Mannino, president of Pirelli, in a statement.
