TOPEKA, Kan. (Oct. 20, 2006) – Goodyear and Hoosier Racing Tire Corp. split the laurels at the Sports Car Club of America (SCCA) National Championship Runoffs held Oct. 13-15 at Heartland Park Topeka with 11 wins each out of 25 races.
Drivers competing on Avon, Toyo and Michelin tires claimed the remaining three titles.
Besides the 11 wins, Goodyear-shod competitors earned 24 other podium finishes (second or third), the company said. Hoosier-equipped drivers claimed 17 other podium finishes.
Two of the classes competing use spec tires: Spec Racer Ford/Goodyear and Spec Miata/Toyo.
The 2006 National Championship Runoffs, often called the Olympics of motor racing and held for the first time at Heartland Park, attracted 682 competitors, all of whom qualified for the event by earning points at races in their respective geographic regions.
