DIAMOND BAR, Calif. (Oct. 19, 2006) — A National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) official will be the featured speaker at a Wheel & Tire Council (WTC) Town Hall Meeting Oct. 30 in Las Vegas prior to the opening of the Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) Show.
George Gillespie, safety compliance engineer responsible for tire-related standards at NHTSA's Office of Vehicle Safety Compliance, will review NHTSA's enforcement activity relative to tires for passenger vehicles and trucks. The meeting will take place from 2-4 p.m. in Room S227 at the Las Vegas Convention Center.
Mr. Gillespie will review and discuss recent NHTSA initiatives to increase tire safety, including compliance and enforcement actions for Tire Pressure Monitoring System (FMVSS No. 138) and passenger and light truck tires (FMVSS No. 139). He also will address increased enforcement to address concerns related to imported tires.
The WTC also will host its annual awards reception from 5-7 p.m. on Nov. 1 in Pavilion 1 of the Las Vegas Hilton. Awards will be presented for Lifetime Achievement and Person of the Year.
