AKRON—AFL-CIO President John Sweeney on Oct. 7 visited United Steelworkers (USW) picketers at Goodyear's headquarters in Akron in a show of solidarity between the federation of labor unions and the USW.
Talking to about a dozen strikers in Akron, Mr. Sweeney said union members need to remain “solid and united.”
“We are going to lend every ounce of support we have to the strikers at Goodyear,” he said.
Mr. Sweeney was in Northeast Ohio to campaign for Democratic candidates in Ohio races.
More than 15,000 Goodyear workers went on strike Oct. 5 at 16 plants in the U.S. and Canada after contract talks broke down.
