CHARLOTTE, N.C. (Sept. 8, 2006) – Continental Tire North America (CTNA) Inc. has become a corporate sponsor of the University of North Carolina (UNC) Tar Heel athletics program for the next three years.©
Neither CTNA nor UNC disclosed the value of the sponsorship, which starts with the 2006-2007 football, basketball and baseball seasons. Thereafter, Conti will “look to expand when opportunities arise,” the tire maker said.
CTNA also said it plans to explore opportunities with UNC's business school, including interviewing qualified graduates for future employment.
“We are delighted to have Continental Tire as a new corporate partner of UNC Athletics and the Tar Heels,” said Rick Steinbacher, associate director of athletics for marketing and promotions.
“Carolina-based companies such as Continental Tire make great partners…. We´re excited about what we will accomplish together over the next three years.”
One of the main components of the sponsorship is the Continental Tire Coaches' Corner, a segment of each pre- and post-game show radio broadcast featuring head football coach John Bunting and Roy Williams, head basketball coach. The program airs on more than 40 stations throughout the Carolinas, as well as XM Satellite nationwide, Conti said.
“This sponsorship of the UNC athletics program shows Continental Tire's commitment to the Carolinas, our dealers and their communities,” said Travis Roffler, CTNA's director of marketing.
