BOSTON (Aug. 11, 2006) — GPX International Tire Corp. has acquired the Hebei Starbright tire factory in China.
The plant will accommodate an increasing demand for product, GPX said, and give the company an international footprint in Asia.
“The Hebei facility will help GPX improve fill rates which in turn allows us to increase global customer satisfaction,” said Bob Sherkin, GPX chairman and co-CEO.
Bryan Ganz, GPX's president and co-CEO, noted that “Starbright significantly expands GPX's presence in the Asian market and allows us to directly service our growing international markets.”
In addition, GPX announced it had hired Phil FitzGerald as managing director of the Starbright plant. Mr. FitzGerald will be responsible for plant modernization and refurbishment with the goal of transforming the facility into a world-class factory.
Mr. FitzGerald brings more than 25 years of experience working in international manufacturing environments, GPX said, including a total of 18 years with Goodyear and Bridgestone/Firestone.
