QUINCY, Ill. (July 28, 2006) — The United Steelworkers Local 890L will vote July 29 on a new collective bargaining agreement with Titan Tire Corp., which, if approved, would pave the way for Titan to purchase Continental Tire North America Inc.'s Bryan, Ohio, off-the-road tire plant by July 31.
As of July 27, Conti had agreed to “substantially all” of the terms under the asset purchase agreement with Titan, the Quincy-based tire and wheel maker said. But a successorship clause in Conti's pact with the union calls for a new contract to be approved between workers and a buyer before the sale can be completed.
The deal also is subject to approval by Conti's shareholders.
Titan said if the union and shareholder votes conclude successfully, the two companies will close on the deal on July 31.
“Our goal is to finalize this transaction as soon as possible,” said Maurice Taylor Jr., Titan chairman and CEO.
