Cooper Tire & Rubber Co. is idling its four U.S. tire plants for unspecified periods, but an official said the shutdowns are part of regular breaks for maintenance and inventory adjustments.
Pat Brown, vice president of global branding and communications, said Cooper's plants in Findlay; Albany, Ga.; Texarkana, Ark.; and Tupelo, Miss., are on temporary vacation shutdowns that occur from time to time. ``That's all it is,'' she told Tire Business.
The scheduled startups vary by plant, she added. Local news media in Arkansas said the Texarkana plant would shut until July 8.
In January and February, Cooper reduced mold and production levels in Texarkana because of weak market conditions.
