SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. (June 28, 2006) — Discount Tire Co. will offer free tire inspections, air gauges and tread depth cards this summer in an effort to remind motorists of the importance of correct inflation pressure.
The Scottsdale-based dealership said drivers can improve mileage by 3.3 percent by keeping their tires properly inflated. Underinflated tires can lower gas mileage by 0.4 percent for every psi drop in pressure.
Discount Tire said it would remind motorists of five main points to improve fuel economy in light of rising costs: maintain proper inflation; check the pressure when tires are cool; remove excess weight; rotate tires regularly; and maintain proper alignment.
