MADISON, Tenn. (June 27, 2006) — Bergey's Tire Service Inc. is not renewing its 5-year-old Michelin Retread Technologies Inc. franchise and instead will focus its premium retreading activities exclusively on the Marangoni Ringtread System (RTS).
Bergey's, which switched from Bandag to Michelin in 2001 and added Marangoni RTS in 2002, said it is upgrading and expanding its RTS retreading plant in Perkasie, Pa., to accommodate the consolidation of capacity.
The dealership recently began notifying its fleet customers of the change.
“In an effort to maintain our professional independence and provide the best product to our fleet customers, we have decided to grow our business with Marangoni Tread North America and the proven Ringtread System,” said Bergey Tire President Duane Bergey in a statement issued by Marangoni.
Mr. Bergey also said the firm's fleet customers have been “very pleased” with the performance and the value—with reduced cost per mile and increased reliability—of the RTS retreads.
The Bergey family has been in the tire and retreading business in Pennsylvania since 1924. Hatfield, Pa.-based Bergey's is a full service commercial tire dealership handling new truck tires including Michelin, Continental, General, Toyo and Yokohama at centers throughout eastern Pennsylvania, southern New Jersey and Virginia.
