SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (June 21, 2006) — Officials from the Rubber Manufacturers Association (RMA) are at a Firestone Complete Auto Care facility in Springfield today as part of a four-day Midwestern tour promoting proper tire care and tire safety.
The tour began June 20 at a Goodyear Auto Center in Mission, Kan. It will continue June 22 at a Big O Tires Inc. store in Indianapolis and finish June 23 at Golden Valley American Car Care Center in Minneapolis.
Proper tire care can save motorists up to 9 cents on every gallon of fuel they buy, the RMA said, yet 81 percent of motorists don't follow proper procedures to check their tire pressure. Twenty-seven percent of passenger cars and 32 percent of light trucks, minivans and sport-utility vehicles have at least one underinflated tire, the association added, citing statistics from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
