International tire and wheel distributor Stamford Tyres Corp. Ltd.'s Thai wheel making subsidiary has achieved quality certifications from Germany's TÃV and Japan's VIA technical inspections organizations.
Stamford Sport Wheels (SSW) makes alloy car and light truck wheels in 13- to 26-inch rim diameters under the SSW brand name at its plant in Nonthaburi, Thailand, about 35 miles northwest of Bangkok.
SSW CEO Roger Chang said the certifications reflect the firm's commitment to produce high quality alloy wheels. The plant has achieved certification for process quality system from the TÃV/Pfalz and accreditation from VIA (Vehicle Inspection Association) for its in-house laboratory.
The SSW plant is capable of making 40,000 wheels a month, according to the firm's Web site. SSW wheels are distributed in North America by Stamford Tires & Wheels Inc., the Charlotte, N.C.-based subsidiary of Singapores' Stamford Tyres.
The company also has entered into a three-year partnership with the Singapore Institute of Manufacturing Technology to explore ways to upgrade its technology and quality standard, he added, and is pursuing ISO quality and environmental management systems.
