David Sullivan, vice president and treasurer of Sullivan Tire Co., died unexpectedly April 13. He was 60.
Mr. Sullivan, son of the late Sullivan Tire founder Robert Sullivan, started working at the family business as a young child. The dealership now operates 53 retail outlets in New England.
Mr. Sullivan, a Eucharistic Minister in his Catholic parish, St. Frances X. Cabrini, also was very active in charitable endeavors. Among many trips overseas to Ireland and France plus pilgrimages to a shrine to the Blessed Mother at Medjugorje in Bosnia-Hercegovina, he was active in charitable works for the poor in that war-torn country. Pat Greene of Sullivan Tire said that on a recent trip there Mr. Sullivan met a woman without running water in her home, so he paid for pipes to be installed.
``He was a champion of the people who didn't have a champion,'' Ms. Greene said.
He also served as president of his family's MFS Charitable Foundation Inc. His family has established the David M. Sullivan Memorial Foundation Inc. to continue his charitable work.
Mr. Sullivan is survived by his wife Roberta; daughter Jennifer; mother Mary; brothers Joseph, Paul, Robert, William and Daniel; sister Patricia; and many nieces and nephews.
