FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich. (April 14, 2006) — Brake and friction material manufacturer Akebono Corp. of North America will move its headquarters to Elizabethtown, Ky., from Farmington Hills throughout this year.
Akebono said its engineering team, the original equipment manufacturers sales team and the research and development team will remain in Farmington Hills to maintain a presence in metro Detroit.
The firm decided to make the move after its purchase of the additional 50 percent of Ambrake Corp. A review of administrative functions showed that Kentucky was the better home for a headquarters because most associates already lived there. Akebono said the move would affect about 50 positions.
Akebono's manufacturing plants are in Elizabethtown, Glasgow, Ky.—as AMAK Brake Ltd., a joint venture with Itochu Corp.—and Springfield, Ky.
