LEAVITTSBURG, Ohio (March 23, 2006) — Specialty tire maker Denman Tire Corp. has laid off 45 to 50 employees at its Leavittsburg factory.
An official of United Steelworkers Local 98, which represents about 250 hourly workers at Denman, said about 50 employees had been laid off earlier this month. A Local 98 Web site said a layoff list of 45 workers was posted March 2.
A Denman spokesman confirmed the layoffs had occurred, but didn't release the number, the reasons for the cuts or other details.
Denman makes and sells light truck, specialty and off-the-road tires for a variety of industries, including the farming, construction, industrial and mining markets.
