LAGUNA SECA, Calif. (March 3, 2006) — Yokohama will be the official tire of Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca for the next three years, according to a deal signed recently by the raceway and Yokohoma Tire Corp.
The deal with Sports Car Racing Association of the Monterey Peninsula, which oversees the raceway's operation, will put Yokohama signage at several spots around the 2.24-mile long road racing course, including on the pedestrian bridge between turns three and four, and other promotional opportunities.
The deal, for which no value was disclosed, “presents us with several new opportunities to showcase Yokohama and our ultra-high-performance Advan tire line,” said Jim MacMaster, Yokohama executive vice president, business division.
Mazda Raceway will stage five major racing events this year, including the A1 Grand Prix, Rolex Monterey Historic Automobile Races, U.S. Grand Prix (motorcycle), U.S. Sports Car Invitational, and Monterey Sports Car Championships/American Le Mans Series race. Yokohama is not involved with the A1 or U.S. grand prix weekends, however.
The Monterey Historic Automobile Races in August are part of a weekend that includes the Concours d'Elegance at the landmark Pebble Beach golf course, where Yokohama also is an official sponsor, the tire maker said.
