SUWANEE, Ga. (March 2, 2006) — Maxxis International, calling 2006 the “Year of High Performance,” is sponsoring Time Attack, a racing series offered at sites across the U.S.
The series, which originated in Japan, is gaining popularity in the U.S. “Time Attack is a sport with rules that can be explained in simple terms,” Maxxis said, quoting eurotuner magazine: “You take a street-tuned car with DOT tires and take it around a track. The goal is to get the fastest time possible in your class.”
The Suwanee-based tire marketer said if last year's series is any indicator, 65-70 drivers will likely compete in each event. It noted that “many of those drivers will cover Time Attack's 2-3 mile courses on Maxxis' MA-Z1 Victra” ultra-high performance radials. The company also is offering a contingency for the top three finishers in each of the series' seven classes.
Race sites where Time Attack will be held include: May 6-7 at Phoenix International Raceway; July 29-30 at Virginia International Raceway; Aug. 12-13 at Road Atlanta; Oct. 14-15 at California's Buttonwillow track; the late-September East Coast finals (date to be announced) at Ohio's Mid-Ohio course; and the West Coast finals Nov. 8 at Buttonwillow.
