Michelin North America Inc. has launched a recall of about 6,500 Michelin Pilot Sport tires in the U.S. and Canada.
Michelin said it has notified the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and Transport Canada of the recall, which applies to size 255/35ZR20 97Y Extra Load. The recall includes only these tires, according to the tire maker, and has no impact on other Michelin tires.
In the affected tires, Greenville-based Michelin said the condition is ordinarily noticeable as a blister on the sidewall that could produce vibration in the tire. It could result in a rapid loss of air pressure, which could lead to a loss of control and possible crash, the tire maker said.
There have been no accidents or injuries reported in North America, Michelin said. Most of the recalled tires were distributed in the U.S. with only about 400 distributed in Canada.
The recalled tires were original equipment on some trim levels of the Jaguar XJ8 and in the replacement market. Their DOT markings begin with FHPNEFMX and end with 00, 01, 02, 03 or 05. Michelin will replace all affected tires.
Customers in the U.S. can call (800) 847-3435 or (888) 871-4444 in Canada.
