ROME, Ga. (Dec. 13, 2005) — Pirelli Tire North America Inc. has created 28 new tire sizes for passenger cars and 33 new sizes for light trucks in the past year, crediting its Modular Integrated Robotized System (MIRS) with the additions.
Pirelli said the new car sizes are ultra-high performance (UHP), with V speed ratings and above. Two-thirds of the light truck sizes are 20-inch rim diameters and higher, including 26- and 28-inch Scorpion Zero Asimmetricos.
The tire maker said it has steadily increased the number of products allocated to the MIRS process, including 35 new products in the past 12 months. “Competitors cannot match Pirelli's path into UHP without first developing flexible production systems, and in that, Pirelli believes it has a significant lead,” the company claimed in a statement.
