FULLERTON, Calif. (Nov. 30, 2005) — Yokohama Tire Corp. (YTC) will expand its presence next year in the American Le Mans Series (ALMS), supporting the return of a factory-backed BMW team to the North American endurance racing venue.
Yokohama will supply Advan racing slicks for Team PTG's pair of BMW M3 sedans in the ALMS' new GT2S class, which was designed to encourage participation from sedan-style cars while earning GT2 points.
Fullerton-based YTC said Team PTG will begin a winter testing program in January, and the ALMS season kicks off in March with the 12 Hours of Sebring in Sebring, Fla. Early photos of the PTG M3s show them painted in Advan's black and red color scheme.
“We are very excited to renew our motorsports relationship with BMW in the American Le Mans Series,” said Robert Dole, product promotions manager for Yokohama. “Using Advan race tire technology, we look forward to building on our past successes with BMW/Team PTG and once again giving the loyal BMW fans a tire technology that they can see in the entire line of Advan consumer products.”
In addition to the team competing in the ALMS on ADVAN tires, Yokohama's partnership with PTG and BMW establishes a research and development program for its racing products and provides a strong marketing platform for its Advan line, the company said.
YTC competed in ALMS events this year with the BAM! Motorsports (Porsche 911) and Pacific Coast Motorsports (Corvette) teams in the GT3 and GT1 categories.
