QUINCY, Ill. (Nov. 28, 2005) — Titan International Inc. has reached a tentative agreement with the United Steelworkers (USW), putting Titan a step closer to buying Goodyear's North American farm tire business.
Titan said the tentative agreement with USW Local 745L covers workers at Goodyear's farm tire plant in Freeport, Ill. The union will schedule a ratification vote in the coming weeks, the company said.
Titan and Goodyear signed a definitive agreement for Titan to buy Goodyear's farm tire business in February, but the deadlines for completing the sale were pushed back as Titan struggled to complete an agreement with the union. Goodyear's contract with the USW included a succession clause that calls for a new contract with any company purchasing a union plant.
