NOKIA, Finland (Nov. 22, 2005) — Nokian Tyres P.L.C. wants to idle its Nokia car tire plant for up to four weeks in order to bring output in line with demand and inventories, and it has started negotiations with the labor union there to facilitate the move.
Nokian also said it is considering cutting 100 jobs at the 1,200-employee Nokia plant.
These potential layoff do not concern personnel working for the group's Nokian Heavy Tyres unit or support personnel for the firm's new plant in Russia, Nokian said.
This move does not alter Nokian's recent prediction for sales and profit development for the year 2005, the group added.
