Tire groups raise scholarship funds
AKRON-Two state tire dealer associations recently raised money for their scholarship funds by holding golf tournaments.
The New England Tire & Service Association (NETSA) said a record 51 golfers participated in an Aug. 19 outing at Heritage Country Club in Charlton, Mass., and raised more than $6,000. Participants received a steak dinner, cash awards for scores, a dozen golf balls, golf gloves and tees.
NETSA said it plans to award six $1,000 scholarships by year-end and is in the process of selecting winners.
The Mid-America Tire Dealers Association (MATDA) also had a record 51 golfers at its Aug. 14 tournament at the Elks Country Club in Salina, Kan. The jury's still out on the total money raised, but the group plans to award six $500 scholarship at its 2006 convention, Executive Director Shawn Herrick said. She added that any extra money raised will go into an interest-bearing account for future scholarship winners.
