Tire wholesaler Max Finkelstein Inc., one of Goodyear's largest North American wholesalers, is expanding its distribution capacity in New England with a $5.2 million, 101,000-sq.-ft. warehouse in Lewiston.
Astoria, N.Y.-based Finkelstein broke ground June 21 on the facility and expects it to open in February as construction is ahead of schedule, according to John Clark, branch manager for the new center. He noted in a prepared statement that Finkelstein searched several sites in southern Maine and ``found the Lewiston site to have great turnpike access, have the infrastructure in place...and to be cost competitive with other options.''
Mr. Clark added that the company has sufficient real estate at the site-in Lewiston's Gendron Business Park-to build an additional 50,000 square feet. The new center will employ 30.
The warehouse is Finkelstein's sixth. The distributor operates three distribution centers in New York and one each in New Jersey and Connecticut.
Founded in 1913, Finkelstein distributes the Goodyear, Dunlop and Republic brands.
