ROME, Ga. (Nov. 2, 2005) — Team X, Pirelli Tire North America Inc.'s first venture into the Formula D Drifting Series, recently picked up an award acknowledging its “ground-breaking efforts to increase diversity in the motorsports arena.”
The racing team, managed by Pirelli's urban marketing consultant, Dele Atanda, was given the Trailblazer Award from the Association for Diversity in Motorsports during an awards banquet at Lowes Motor Speedway in Concord, N.C. Pirelli said the award is presented to those who are “among the first to make inroads into a specific area of motorsports, creating a path for others to follow.”
Team X was honored for its efforts to bring African-American participation into the Formula D Drifting Series, which was recently established in the U.S.
According to Rome-based Pirelli, Team X is a result of its developing initiatives in the “urban automotive sector,” which include creating relationships between the motorsports and urban entertainment industries.
