AKRON (Oct. 26, 2005) — Volunteers helping with the 2005 Great American Cleanup removed more than 208 million pounds of litter and debris plus 2.1 million scrap tires nationwide in the annual event, held from March through May.
The effort, organized by nonprofit Keep America Beautiful Inc., included 2.45 million volunteers, planting more than 4 million flower bulbs and trees as they picked up refuse.
