CHICAGO (Oct. 19, 2005) — Oil and gas conglomerate BP Amoco will crown the first-ever Amoco Ultimate Golden Mechanic during a head-to-head car repair contest Nov. 1 in Las Vegas.
Each of the three finalists—from Detroit, St. Louis and Atlanta—will have the opportunity to showcase his or her auto repair knowledge and auto diagnostic skills in a “Truth and Repair” challenge, BP Amoco said. The mechanics also will be put through a series of physical challenges.
The winner will receive $25,000 cash and $1,200 worth of fuel and will serve as the national spokesperson for Amoco Ultimate motor oil.
The contest will take place from 9-10 a.m. at Dream Car Rentals, located on the Las Vegas Strip just blocks from the Las Vegas Convention Center, site of the annual SEMA Show.
The event will be hosted by Monster Garage's Brett “Big Schwag” Wagner, and finalists will be rated by an expert panel of judges, including Julie Sussman and Stephanie Glakas-Tenet, co-authors of Dare to Repair Your Car, Matt King, Detroit Editor of Hot Rod, and Denny Kahler, chairman of the Automotive Service Association.
