ST. LOUIS (Oct. 18, 2005) — Ampac Tire Distributors Inc., which operates the Tire Pros franchise program, has agreed to buy Latham Tire Co.—which does business as Autotire Car Care Centers—for an undisclosed amount.
The deal for St. Peters, Mo.-based Latham is scheduled to close soon, Ampac said in a prepared statement. Latham operates 23 Autotire outlets in the St. Louis area.
“By uniting with Tire Pros and leveraging its many years of leadership in the tire and auto service industry, Autotire becomes an instant heavyweight in the area,” said John Ronsick, Autotire's president. “Combining our strength and presence with the marketing muscle and buying clout of Tire Pros is a formula that competitors simply cannot match.”
Dennis Mangola president and CEO of Ampac, said he was “thoroughly impressed” with Autotire's top-notch leadership team, noting the buyout will create “one of the strongest network and management lineups in the industry.”
Ampac is one of the largest tire distributors in the U.S. Its Tire Pros franchised outlets have a strong presence in five of the country's 10 geographic zones.
Autotire—founded in 1981 by partners Gene Latham, Ray Latham and John Ronsick—has 23 metropolitan locations, a wholesale operation and parts division. The company is a distributor member of the American Car Care Centers (ACCC) Inc. independent dealer network and provides “competitive and comprehensive” nationwide warranty programs, according to Ampac.
Mr. Mangola added that with the merger “Autotire now has all the tools for future market growth and successes in the St. Louis area.”
