Tuffy Manufacturing Co. celebrated its 40th anniversary and the grand opening of its larger distribution center in Akron recently.
Founder and President Lew Zimmerman said the new center, which also houses the company's headquarters, has about 10,000 square feet of warehouse space, about double what the distributor occupied before. Tuffy, which employs 12 in Akron, moved last October. The company's actual anniversary was last year, but officials decided to postpone the celebration to also mark the building's opening.
Fourteen vendors attended the grand opening, along with about 200 visitors. After, the company hosted a trip to a Cleveland Indians baseball game.
John Salzbach, customer service manager for Rema Tip Top, one of the vendors at the opening, said his company has a long-standing relationship with Tuffy. Tuffy's expansion also could help expand that relationship, he told Tire Business.
Tuffy distributes tire and automotive equipment and supplies to tire dealers, trucking fleets, rubber companies, municipalities and other customers. Despite the name, Tuffy no longer manufactures any products.
Vice President Steve Zimmerman said the company's next focus will be growing and expanding the business. The company does not disclose its sales. ``We want to be leaders in the tire supply (business),'' he said.
