AKRON (Sept. 30, 2005) — Michelin North America Inc. said its manufacturing plants in the U.S. have not seen any disruption because of raw material supply since Hurricane Rita hit the Gulf Coast Sept. 24.
A Michelin spokeswoman said the Greenville, S.C.-based tire maker got notification earlier this week that some of its suppliers of synthetic rubber, carbon black and silica were affected by the storm. However, Michelin's plants did not see any disruption. The spokeswoman said some suppliers are expecting to be back online as early as Oct. 3, and company officials will continue to monitor the situation.
“If everyone comes back up when they say they're coming back up, we should be fine,” the spokeswoman added.
Cooper Tire & Rubber Co. said earlier that it planned to reduce production schedules at two of its plants because of raw material shortages, taking about 30,000 tires a day out of production.
