LEXINGTON, Ohio (Sept. 30, 2005) — Goodyear, Yokohama Tire Corp. and Hoosier Racing Tire Corp. all claimed victory at the recent 2005 SCCA National Championship Runoffs at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course near Lexington, with Goodyear equipping 13 of the 23 class winners.
The 13 wins beat all other tire makers combined in amateur racing's sports car classic, Goodyear said. There were 23 races in all, spread over three days, featuring 734 cars from across the U.S.
“It was another successful Runoffs for Goodyear,” said Bob Shaffer, marketing manager for sports car racing. “We won on bias-ply, we won on radial slicks and we won on our DOT tires.”
Yokohama claimed two wins and drivers in at least four classes used Hoosier tires.
The event, held at Mid-Ohio for the past 12 years, is described as the Olympics of amateur motor racing. The Runoffs shift next year to Hearthland Park near Topeka, Kan.
