CYPRESS, CALIFORNIA (Sept. 27, 2005) — Sports Car Club of America (SCCA) has selected the Toyo Proxes RA1 as the exclusive tire for its Club Racing Spec Miata class in national competition from 2006-2008.
The SCCA selected the RA1 after testing various tires at Heartland Park Topeka on an assortment of Mazda Miata race cars equipped with 1.6- and 1.8-liter engines before selecting the RA1. Tire choice previously was unlimited.
“The Proxes RA1 was first developed for SCCA Club Racing,” said Travis Roffler, senior director of marketing, Toyo Tire (U.S.A.) Corp. “We are excited to be involved with this competitive series, enjoying a relationship since it was first conceived.”
The RA1 already is the official tire of SPEED World Challenge and National Automotive Speed Association's Spec Miata series and continues to solidify its position in racing as the exclusive tire for Spec Miata.
The SCCA Spec Miata championship is open to Miatas from 1990 through 2005 model year, with the 1.6-liter models running lighter than the 1.8-liter versions, according to the club's rule book. The rule book specifies a 15x7 wheel size.
The overall contingency program by Toyo for 2006 will total $85,000 in cash with payouts for each national event, year-end divisional standings and the SCCA National Championship Runoffs.
Separately, Hankook Tire of America Corp. supplies its Ventus Z211 as the spec tire for the SCCA's Mazda Miata North American Cup Series professional competition.
