The Motor Vehicle Owners' Right to Repair Act is now up to 50 co-sponsors in the House of Representatives, and supporters are redoubling their efforts to get the legislation through Congress.
The bill would require auto makers to give the same repair and diagnostic information to independent repair shops that they provide their own dealers.
Sources said that House Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman Joe Barton, R-Va., was ready to put the Right to Repair Act on the fast track if new negotiations between the auto manufacturers and the automotive aftermarket broke down-after which Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., would introduce the bill in the Senate.
