Car Care Month posters available
BETHESDA, Md.-New October Fall Car Care Month posters and banners have been added to the Car Care Council's ``Be Car Care Aware'' point-of-sale (POS) kits.
The council said the POS kits-which can be ordered through its www.carcare.org Web site-are aimed at helping repair shops and parts stores focus motorists' attention on the importance of preparing their vehicles for the upcoming winter months.
Other materials in the kits include ``Be Car Care Aware'' signage, consumer education materials and the industry's comprehensive Service Interval Schedule. The schedule helps consumers track regular vehicle servicing by taking the guesswork out of what vehicle systems need to be routinely inspected, the council said, and when service or repair should be performed.
The kits also include materials that can be used for National Car Care Month events in April 2006.
As a bonus, auto repair shops and parts stores that purchase the kits will be included in the council's ``Find A Shop'' and ``Find A Store'' locators on its Web site, which the Bethesda-based organization said receives more than 100,000 hits per month.
Visteon offers NASCAR challenge
VAN BUREN TOWNSHIP, Mich.-Visteon Corp.'s latest promotion offers prizes to automotive aftermarket professionals who predict the outcomes of the last 10 races of the 2005 NASCAR season.
Grand prize for the free Web-based Visteon ``SpecTRACKular Challenge'' promotion is an expenses-paid trip for two to the Richard Petty Driving Experience.
The game, open to any underhood parts distributor, jobber employee or automotive service or body shop technician, requires participants to predict the top three drivers in each of the final 10 NASCAR races. If one, two or all three of the selected drivers finish in the top three in that week's race, the player will earn program points. The player earning the most points throughout the 10-race series wins the grand prize. Weekly questions related to Visteon aftermarket products will enable participants to enhance their competitive position by increasing their point totals.
Other prizes include two tool chests signed by NASCAR team owner Ray Evernham and autographed die-cast cars for weekly winners.
To access SpecTRACKular, log on to www.spectrackularchallenge.com and complete a free registration. E-mail messages will be sent each week to remind participants to make their picks for the next race.
Visteon makes and markets a broad line of replacement underhood components for all makes and models.
NHTSA proposes higher CAFE
WASHINGTON-Auto makers and other interested parties have until Nov. 23 to comment on a proposal from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) to reform the standard for corporate average fuel economy (CAFE) for the nation's vehicle fleets.
The proposed plan would phase in the changes between model years 2008 and 2011, with all auto makers required to comply by 2011 with miles-per-gallon targets based on vehicle size, according to NHTSA.
The agency is asking auto makers to comment on possible methods of meeting the reformed standards, including reduction of tire rolling resistance among many other options. NHTSA estimates the new standard would save 10 billion gallons of gasoline and cut 39.4 million metric tons of carbon emissions over the lives of model year 2011 vehicles alone, but consumer and environmental groups claim the proposal represents little real improvement over current CAFE rules.
``What we need is visionary leadership, not a wimpy response to a national crisis,'' said Joan Claybrook, president of Public Citizen and former NHTSA administrator, in a statement on the Public Citizen Web site.
The Rubber Manufacturers Association and Tire Industry Association declined comment on the proposal, with an RMA spokesman saying the rule has little apparent effect on tire makers.
BP has co-branded credit card
WAYNE, N.J.-To help quick lube operators increase customer retention, BP Lubricants USA Inc. has introduced the BP 3/1 Visa card program, a new rebate opportunity for BP Visa cardholders.
The petroleum company claims the 3/1 program will help keep customers coming back by offering an incentive to visit participating stores for an increased rebate on all services and products.
Among the new benefits, BP Visa cardholders are now offered a 3-percent rebate at participating quick lubes-as opposed to a 1- percent rebate for non-participating quick lube outlets-and also get a 3-percent reward for use at BP fuel stations or BP Connect convenience stores. They also receive a 1-percent rebate for use on all other purchases wherever Visa is accepted.
