DETROIT (Sept. 15, 2005) — General Motors Corp.'s OnStar division has added a subscriber service that will e-mail a vehicle maintenance report and reminder each month to the motorist.
OnStar said the maintenance reminders—exclusive to GM vehicles—are based on the vehicle's current odometer reading, remaining engine oil-life and other relevant vehicle ownership information. Its OnStar Vehicle Diagnostics automatically performs hundreds of diagnostic checks on four key GM vehicle operating systems: the engine/transmission; anti-lock brake system; airbag; and OnStar system. The vehicle is automatically programmed to send the results via e-mail to the owner each month.
The report also matches the vehicle's current odometer reading to the GM Simplified Maintenance Schedule so that customers are informed about recommended maintenance services, the company added.
The diagnostic service is offered to eligible OnStar subscribers at no additional charge, GM said. Subscribers can request a GM Goodwrench Remote Diagnostics check any time during the month by pressing their vehicle's blue OnStar button. OnStar said its advisors perform “real-time” remote diagnostics checks for subscribers about 27,000 times a month.
The company said the new service can be activated on millions of 2004 model-year or newer OnStar-equipped GM vehicles that have GM's Oil-Life System and diagnostic capabilities. An active OnStar subscription is required for enrollment.
