RICHFIELD, Ohio (Sept. 14, 2005) — OEConnection L.L.C., an e-commerce automotive parts procurement service geared primarily to new car dealers, is adding tires to its portfolio of products through distribution agreements with six national and multi-regional tire distributors.
The tire procurement program involves initially Tire Kingdom Inc., Goodyear Wholesale Tire Centers, Kauffman Tire Co. and S&S Tire, K&M Tire and Terry's Tire Town of Best One Tire & Service Group.
Tire procurement will be available initially through OEConnection's D2Dlink parts locator to customers in selected Southeast and North Central states. OEConnection plans to take the program nationwide in early 2006.
Richfield-based OEConnection describes itself as a provider of Web-based technology solutions for auto makers, their affiliated dealers and others in the automotive parts business. It was created in 2000 by DaimlerChrysler A.G., Ford Motor Co., General Motors Corp. and ProQuest Automotive, a unit of ProQuest Business Solutions Inc.
OEConnection claims nearly 12,000 subscribers nationwide conducting more than 140,000 parts searches daily. OEConnection is providing tire availability as a no-charge, value-added enhancement to its D2DLink program.
To order tires, users enter a tire part number or search by tire size to pinpoint availability and location, OEConnection said. Tire inventories are updated daily.
“We're all about creating technology to streamline the OE replacement parts supply chain,” said Ted Fellowes, OEConnection vice president, supply chain solutions, in a prepared statement.
“By providing automotive dealers with visibility to tire distributor inventories, we are saving parts managers time in locating tires, extending tire distributors' reach with lucrative new sales channels and most importantly, delivering timely response to consumers.”
Mike Papi, vice president of business development for Tire Kingdom, said, “By partnering with OEConnection, we can better serve this emerging channel and our mutual end customer by taking advantage of parts technology already in use by thousands of dealerships.”
