CYPRESS, Calif. (Sept. 2, 2005) — Toyo Tire (U.S.A.) Corp. will be the primary sponsor of National Hod Rod Association (NHRA) Funny Car driver Frank Pedregon for the Mac Tools U.S. Nationals Sept. 3-5 and the Toyo Tires NHRA Nationals Sept. 15-18.
Mr. Pedregon's Dodge Stratus Funny Car features black paint with a yellow lightning bolt emblazoned with “Toyo Tires” along its side; the car rides on Goodyear Eagle drag racing slicks. The veteran drag racer has posted a career best speed of 322.96-mph in the quarter mile, and a career best elapsed time of 4.754-seconds.
The Mac Tool U.S. Nationals over Labor Day weekend in Indianapolis is considered the premier event on the tour. Mr. Pedregon has enjoyed great success at this event, Toyo said, winning overall in 1999 and as the overall winner of the Skoal Showdown at the Indianapolis Raceway Park track in 2001.
“This is huge for drag racing to have a major tire company involved with the sport,” Mr. Pedregon said. “This is huge for me. 2005 is my first year as a car owner, and I am excited to be involved with Toyo Tires.”
The next stop is the Toyo Tires NHRA Nationals September 15-18 at Maple Grove Raceway in Reading, Pa. Toyo is title sponsor for the Maple Grove event, its first for an NHRA race weekend.
“We are excited to be associated with Frank Pedregon,” said Gregg Vandermark, Toyo's senior marketing manager of motorsports and events. “His experience and professionalism are apparent, both with his team and track record. The Toyo Tires Dodge Stratus will be the car to watch at upcoming events.”
