GREENVILLE, S.C. (Aug. 25, 2005) — The Michelin Pilot Exalto PE2 and Pilot MXM4 tires will be exclusive fitments on the 2006 Honda Civic Si sport compact.
“Working together with Honda, we have been able to tune the vehicle to take full advantage of both the sporty Michelin Pilot Exalto PE2 tires and the touring features of the Michelin Pilot MXM4 tires,” said Tom Chubb, vice president of original equipment marketing for Michelin North America Inc.
Both tires come in size 215/45R17 on the Civic Si. The Pilot Exalto PE2 tire carries a W speed rating and the Pilot MXM4 carries a V speed rating.
The Pilot Exalto PE2 has an asymmetric tread design featuring additional grooves for water evacuation on the inside shoulder of the tire. The outside shoulder provides massive tread blocks to enhance handling and grip, the company said. Other technical features include Michelin's Life Maximized Adherence tread compounding—a highly specialized race-derived compound—and a rayon carcass with ultra-reinforced sidewalls and lightweight rim protectors.
The Pilot MXM4 features a European performance profile to enhance handling and provide better hydroplaning resistance in deep water, Michelin said. It also features BAZ (banded at zero) technology which helps limit tire distortion at high speeds through spiral-wrapped, nylon strips.
