Cooper Tire & Rubber Co. plans to move into a 400,000-sq.-ft. distribution center in the Southwest by mid-September and expand its distribution hub.
Located along Interstate 20 in Grand Prairie, Texas, near Dallas, the center will be used for warehousing and distributing passenger, light truck and medium truck tire products for the Southwest, South and Midwest. The Findlay tire maker is leasing the facility.
Cooper said the center will use the latest in technology with its warehouse management system and specially constructed racks to make use of stacking height and forward shipping area layout. It is equipped with 96 dock doors.
``Cooper's investment in its logistics infrastructure supports our continued growth in the replacement tire market and will significantly expand our distribution network,'' said Patricia Brown, vice president, global branding and communications.
The facility will operate five days a week from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Cooper said it anticipates hiring 30 additional employees. Distribution center manager Todd Lemke will relocate from Cooper's Cedar Rapids, Iowa, distribution center to manage the new facility.
The Grand Prairie warehouse is Cooper's ninth. The others are in Albany, Ga.; Tupelo, Miss.; Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.; Texarkana, Ark.; Tacoma, Wash.; Findlay and Moraine, Ohio; and Cedar Rapids. Additionally, the tire maker operates Oliver Rubber distribution centers in Asheboro, N.C., and Salt Lake City.
