EVERETT, Wash. (June 10, 2005) — Boeing Co. has named Group Michelin a tire supplier for its 787 Dreamliner passenger airliner, due to start flying in 2008.
Earlier Boeing identified Bridgestone Corp. as its primary supplier for the Dreamliner series, a family of fuel-efficient airplanes that will fly in three configurations, varying from 223 to 296 passengers.
Michelin will offer a combination of traditional radial construction tires and new lightweight Near Zero Growth (NZG) construction tires. NZG construction offers increased resistance to cuts and wear, according to the tire maker.
The 787 rolls on eight main landing gear and two nose landing gear tires.
The 787-8 Dreamliner will carry 223 passengers in three classes of seating with a range of up to 8,500 nautical miles; the 787-3 will carry 296 passengers in two-class seating on ranges up to 3,500 nautical miles; and the 787-9 will carry 259 passengers in three classes with a range of 8,300 nautical miles.
Boeing said recently it has orders from 18 airlines totaling 217 Dreamliners.
