BLOOMINGDALE, Ill. (May 26, 2005) — With the Memorial Day holiday weekend approaching, and record high gas prices at the pump, Bridgestone/Firestone's Firestone Tire & Service Centers (FTSC) are offering some tips to help motorists get the most from each tank of gas.
Among its suggestions are making sure tires are properly inflated; purchasing the correct octane fuel for the vehicle; slowing down and using cruise control when appropriate; checking the vehicle's gas cap to make sure it's in working order and properly closed; removing ski and bike racks when not in use; and rolling up car windows.
According to the American Automobile Association's (AAA) annual driving survey released earlier this month, more than 31.1 million Americans will be traveling 50 miles or more for the Memorial Day holiday.
Starting on Memorial Day, BFS is offering drivers a free copy of Firestone's 7 Fuel Savings Tips booklet at participating FTSC and ExpertTire locations across the country. The booklet, available through July while supplies last, contains tips to help drivers squeeze the most mileage out of a gallon of gas and also provides information about services that can help cars operate more fuel efficiently, the company said.
BFS Retail & Commercial Operations, L.L.C. is based in Bloomingdale and operates more than 2,200 consumer and commercial vehicle service and tire locations across the U.S. and Canada, including Firestone Tire & Service Centers, TiresPlus, ExpertTire and GCR Tire Centers store locations.
