SOUTH BEND, Ind. (April 27, 2005) — Cooper Tire & Rubber Co.´s Avon Tyres will launch a DOT-legal Tech RA competition tire in six sizes before April 30.
The Tech RA—which will be available through mail-order and online marketer Tire Rack—is designed to maximize acceleration, braking and cornering, according to Avon, the Melksham, England-based subsidiary of Cooper. A high-grip tread compound molded into a near-slick tread pattern combined with a revised internal construction and casing performance are aimed at advancing the tire's performance beyond the original Tech R.
“In comparison to the original Tech R, which is already an outstanding motorsports tire with good treadlife, the new Tech RA is designed to reduce times by blending great dry traction with improved steering response and cornering stability without a reduction in treadwear,” said Julian Baldwin, motorsport director of Avon Tyres Racing.
Avon plans to make the tire available in time for use in the 2005 Sports Car Club of America's Solo competition. South Bend-based Tire Rack said it will have the tires available later this month for distribution in the U.S.
The six sizes will be: 205/55R14, 205/50R15, 225/45R15, 225/50R16, 225/45R17 and 275/40R17.
